During the open call for residency project “Ukraine will be / Буде Україна” (which was form 9th of May till 9th of June) we were waiting for proposals for artistic interpretations of futuristic visions and intuitions about Ukraine. The coordinators of the project encouraged interested duos to submit applications with a broader context, including the registration of insights on socio-political changes in this part of Europe and the shaping, or even improving, of the new reality in which we all find ourselves. In the end, more than 25 creative duos applied to take part in the hybrid residency – one person will do it in Wroclaw, while the other will participate remotely staying in their home country!
Who was chosen by a professional jury?
Anton Malinovskiy (Snihurivka, Nikolaev region), took up photography as a journalist in 2016 and two years later began working with conceptual art using various media. He currently works with social themes, often illuminating them through the prism of post-irony. He has participated in many exhibitions across Europe as well as solo exhibitions. He is a member of the collective MYPH – Mykolaiv Young Photographers.
Margo Reznik (Kiev), graduate of the National University of Construction and Architecture and the Center for Contemporary Art in Kiev. Ukrainian artist, painter, performer. Currently works with sound, body, video, photography and performance art in a broad sense. She has participated in many international festivals and residency projects. Margo is a creator of authorial performative actions.

“We want to think of a future when everything is in order, when we have won. We want to imagine a path that leads us to peace, to victory (…). Our plan for the artistic residency is memes, which are a reflection of how we imagine our next steps. We have been looking at memes as a social instrument for a long time and we want to work on them together, combining our love for art and the language of visual symbols (…). – mentions the artistic duo in their proposa “We are planning memes about a hypopthetical future and will take them to the absurd. We want to present them in large format print, video and objects that are born from memes. And maybe a performance with the participation of other people?” – they add
As part of the September residency, the collaborative duo will develop an artistic action during regular online meetings, which we plan to present to the public during a hybrid artist talk in Barbara, Wroclaw Institution od Culture’s headquarters. More details will be announced in the autumn.
Congratulations to the open call winners!
